I love the idea of being an outward bound kind of guy. Big bushy beard. Lumberjack shirt. Rugged approach to life!
But the truth is I’m a married father of two with a desk job and probably a little too much around the waist.
However, I do like hillwalking and I really love all the gadgets and equipment that goes with it.
So, if you’re looking for real world reviews on products that have been tried and tested (or at least extensively researched on Google from the comfort of my home office), then you’re in the right place!

Reviews
When I was growing up our family holidays were usually based around camping.
To start with we used standard tents, then “upgraded” to a trailer tent, and finally reached the pinnacle with a caravan.
I never really understood the thinking behind that idea. Taking a family of four people (that didn’t really get on that well in a large 5 bed house) and cramming them into a small 4 berth caravan for two weeks, wasn’t my idea of fun.
But I was young, and had nothing to say in the matter. Yet what it did leave me with (apart from the emotional scars) was a general feeling of warmth towards camping. One that I’m keen to pass on to my kids.
Therefore I’ve taken this idea and created the Field and Fire website to provide real world reviews of products that I’ve found online and tested in the field.
As a keen watcher of outward bound TV shows, I know, that like me, there will be other wanna be SAS trainees out there looking for the equipment that will help them survive the Great Outdoors, or at least a weekend camping with the kids in the local woods.
