Tents
Where do you start? There are so many tents on the market these days. Personally we’ve got three main tents with an ultralight on back order. Each tent serves either a single purpose, such as our tried and trusty beach shelter. Or our large Berghaus family tent that can fit all four of us, plus dogs and all the gear.
There’s such a huge choice that’s it’s difficult to know what’s worth your time and money. Therefore we’ve selected some of the best tents on the market at the moment. Most of these are either suitable for ultralight camping, or family sized for proper campsite pitches. Either way, all of the items on here have great reviews and are either owned by us or come with brilliant recommendations.
Ultralight Tents
Marmot Fortress 2P Ultralight
Brilliantly designed 2 person ultra-light tent with near vertical side walls. Offers excellent storage and space for two plus equipment. Wind and water resistant with fully taped seams, that can be used with or without the orange fly sheet.

Naturehike Cloud-Up 2P Ultralight
Really great budget option from Naturehike. They constantly release some fantastic tents with all price ranges. This Cloud-Up 2P has everything you’d expect from more expensive tents, including great breathability and strong wind resistance.
£159.00
Jack Wolfskin Gossamer
Coming in at a very portable 1.5kg in weight, the Jack Wolfskin Gossamer is a nifty little 1 person tent that still manages to have enough space for a pack and boots in the front porch section. Very popular with cyclists and people looking for a no frills option.
£149.44
Easthills Outdoor Shader
We have this! It’s one of the main parts of our Beach Getup. You can read the full review here. Easy to put and down, packs away into a hand carry bag. The whole thing can close up for privacy and it’s easily big enough for an adult to use for changing. We love it.

Drop X-Mid 2P Tent Designed by Dan Durston
Without a doubt the best 2 person ultralight tent on the market. They sell out within hours but you can sign up for notification through their website. I’ve emailed them and heard that they are expecting more in stock in Sept. So fingers crossed!
Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL 2
Top of several “best tents on the market” reviews. The Big Agnus packs a lot of tent into a very small package. Self standing (no need to reuse your walking poles) this little beauty offers excellent protection and enough space for all your gear.
£473.70
Big Agnes Fly Creel Ultra Lightweight
The second Big Agnus tent on here and it’s a belter. Ultra-lightweight, robust and extremely portable. If I wasn’t holding out for the Durston, either of the Big Agnus tents would be in my backpack now.

Nemo Dagger 2
You can ignore the less than generous 1 star review some prick has left on this tent. It’s not Nemo’s fault that they failed to pitch it correctly. The upshot is that the Nemo Dagger 2 is second only to Big Agnes in terms of quality and reliability.

MSR Hubba Hubba NX 2
Falling squarely into the “if I could afford this, I’d buy this” camp. I love this tent. Have seen a couple out and about and they always seem to be owned by the young cool types. At the moment, their excellent pegs are as close as I’ve come to owning one.
£474.86
Family Tents
Coleman Octagon Tent
My mate has this tent and really rates it. I’m not convinced the all open layout is ideal for a family of four. I mean, where do you sit and talk once the kids are in bed? However, I heard the build quality is solid and it’s easy to put up and pack away. Who am I to argue?
£215.00
Berghaus Air 6 Inflatable Tunnel
This is the air inflatable version of our trusty Berghaus tent. While I’ve not used this one personally, the new Berghaus Air range has been getting rave reviews. This 6 person version has two bed chambers, each sleeping 3 and a large middle section able to be used as a kitchen and storage area.

Eurohike Sendero
EuroHike have been making affordable tents for years and the Sendero is another great addition to the range. Sleeps up to 4 people, with an added main section and wide opening front porch. You can’t really go wrong at this price.

Hi-Gear Hampton 6 Nightfall
Another in the series of tunnel tents. This Hi-Gear Hampton has more than enough room for a family of six. With a fully built in ground sheet, and black out sleeping chambers. This tent makes sure you’re not going to be woken by sunlight streaming in through the canvas first thing in the morning.

Robens Klondike Grande Tipi
The name says tipi but the look says yurt! Robens have been making these for years and the Klondike Grande is as good as it gets. There’s so much room inside, it can fit up to 10 people. The added height is a welcome bonus meaning that it stays cooler than the shorter tents, even when pitched in strong sunlight.
£799.00
Vango Beta 350XL
This 3 person tent from Vango is a wee beauty. A spacious rear compartment gives way to a roomy front porch section that has loads of room for equipment and bags. It’s light too, coming in at just a smidge over 7kgs.
£174.07
Coleman Meadowood
The second Coleman we’ve featured on the site so far. This air inflatable tent uses 3 core main beams to give structure. While the added guy ropes and ground pegging gives security.
